The Volkswagen Vento (previously known as the Polo Sedan) is offered in two variants here in Malaysia: a 1.6L naturally aspirated version and a 1.2L turbocharged model. Unfortunately, the features available in Malaysian models are more limited compared to those offered in countries like India or China.
My 2014 model, for instance, did not come with LED headlights or an automatic headlight function — both of which are really convenient features, especially for a forgetful or lazy driver like me. The “Auto” setting alone would spare me from ever needing to manually switch the headlights on or off.
So I decided to upgrade. I picked up a set of Narva LED headlight bulbs and an OEM automatic headlight switch from China. These upgrades were budget-friendly — around RM160 for the Narva LEDs and RM180 for the auto light switch.
Installation was quick and easy:
- For the LED bulbs (H4 socket), it was just a simple swap: remove the old bulbs and plug in the new ones.
- For the auto headlight switch, it required a few more steps:
- Turn the switch to the “0” position.
- Push the knob inward, then twist it to the left.
- The switch will release and can be pulled out.
- Disconnect the plug, then reverse the process to install the new switch.
With these simple upgrades, my Polo Sedan now feels a step closer to the higher-spec models — without breaking the bank. 😄
