Finally, after a long wait, I managed to carve out some time during the Chinese New Year holiday to update you on my Celica. You may recall that I bought a set of new rims a while back, but I never had the chance to fit them in. Well, the day has finally come!
Here are the specifications of the rims I chose:
- Front: 18×9 ET30
- Rear: 18×9 ET20
You might wonder why I chose two different offsets. The rear of the Celica tends to sink a little if the same offset is used for both the front and rear, so I went with a different offset for the rear to correct this. For reference, the stock rims were 16×6.5 ET39 all around.
I wrapped the rims with Achilles ATR-Sport tyres, size 225/40/R18. Although this isn’t the ideal size for a 9-inch wide rim, given the current trend for flush styles and tyre stretching, it’s the best I could afford within my budget. These tyres are surprisingly affordable at RM285 each. Not the cheapest, but definitely the best bang for my buck.
Now, let’s talk about the impact of the new rims:
- Car height clearance is lifted by about an inch.
- Wheel-to-fender gap is roughly around 2 inches.
So, what’s next? To improve the stance, I’m thinking about lowering the car by about an inch all around. The next step will either be installing an adjustable suspension or a set of sport springs.
Although the new rims haven’t impacted my Celica’s performance much, I’m itching for more power to match the look. Stay tuned for the next update, and let’s see what other upgrades I can do!
