Engine Cover Wrinkle Effect on a Proton Persona
I’ve always wanted my friend to upgrade his Proton Persona’s engine bay. After months of persuasion, he finally agreed. His chosen theme? A bold blue engine cover wrinkle effect that really stands out.
We went with Gox7 Mugen blue wrinkle spray paint for a textured look. But this time, we also upgraded the base coat. Instead of the standard high-temp base I used before, he chose ultra high-temp base paint. Why? Because he planned to paint the 4-2-1 exhaust extractor too.
He also installed a full set of blue silicone hoses. These replaced the old radiator and vacuum hoses. Together with the painted valve cover, they transformed the engine bay.
Prep Work Before the Wrinkle Paint
The first step was removing the engine valve cover. My friend started degreasing it under the hot sun. I stood by for support (and jokes), but only one person was needed for cleaning—too many hands would just slow things down.
After a few rounds of degreasing and rinsing, we dried the cover. Then, we taped off all holes and areas not meant for painting. This part is key to keeping the finish neat.
Surprisingly, his Campro engine was still in great condition. No rust or leaks around the valve cover.
Spraying the Engine Cover Wrinkle Effect

Then came the fun part: wrinkle spraying. We applied three even coats of the Gox7 Mugen blue wrinkle spray. Each coat was spaced 3–5 minutes apart. This timing helps build the texture.
It’s crucial to apply the layers evenly. If it’s too thin, you won’t see the wrinkle effect. Too thick, and the finish becomes blotchy. After the last coat, my friend used a blower to help it dry and “activate” the wrinkle pattern.
We were both happy with the result. The wrinkle effect popped, giving the engine bay a sporty, custom look.

Painting the Exhaust Extractor
Next, we turned to the 4-2-1 extractor. This part got only the ultra high-temp paint, no wrinkle effect. The finish was smooth and functional, perfect for heat protection.

Final Result: A Fresh New Look
After over five hours in the workshop, everything was back in place. The blue valve cover with its wrinkle texture looked amazing. The new hoses matched perfectly. And the freshly painted extractor added a clean, functional touch.
This engine cover wrinkle effect project made a huge difference in the look of the engine bay. It’s a simple mod, but one with big visual payoff.
