It’s been over a year since I completed the second engine conversion for my Kancil, and it’s time for an update. This round, it’s all about extra rims, new wheels, and what’s coming next.
New Wheels and Fitment Challenges
In December last year, I decided it was time for a fresh set of wheels. I initially had my eyes on 14x6JJ rims with a +38 offset. The size looked good on paper. But once mounted for a test fit, they poked out of the wheel arch way too much.
So, I had to make a quick decision.
Instead, I went for a set of 14×5.5 +38 offset rims, which fit much better with my setup. No poke, no rubbing, and no fuss. I wrapped them in a set of Falken Sincera SN832i tyres. Until now, they’re still performing well—grippy enough for daily use and very comfortable.

The total cost for the wheels and tyres? About RM1,200, if my memory serves me right. Considering the quality, I’d say that’s a decent deal.

Extra Rims, New Wheels, and a Spare Set in Storage
Now here’s the part that got me thinking. After swapping to the new set, I still have my original Daihatsu Mira L200s 9-spoke rims sitting in my store room. These are classic, and I don’t want to just let them sit there collecting dust.
I’m planning to send them for refurbishment, and yes—I’ll bring them back to their original factory finish. A fresh coat and some care can breathe new life into these timeless rims.
But here’s the dilemma…
What to Do With the Extra Rims?
Once the refurb is done, I’m not sure what to do next. Should I sell them off if the price is right? Or maybe I should keep them as spares just in case I want to change things up later?
It’s a hard call. Selling could give me some cash back. Keeping them means I’ll always have a backup set if I feel like refreshing the car’s look.
That’s where I’d love to hear your thoughts. What would you do with an extra set of rims? Keep or sell?
Final Thoughts on Extra Rims, New Wheels
Upgrading wheels isn’t always smooth sailing. Sometimes, the perfect size doesn’t fit. But with a little adjustment and some trial and error, I ended up with a setup that works great for my Kancil.
And now, with extra rims, new wheels, and some plans in motion, the car continues to evolve—bit by bit.
Whether I sell or keep the spares, one thing’s for sure—there’s always something more to do in this project.
