The Mira L500 dashboard is one of the most popular interior upgrades among Perodua Kancil enthusiasts. It’s stylish, modern, and completely transforms the look and feel of your car’s cabin. But it’s not a simple plug-and-play job. In this post, I’ll explain why I chose the L500 over other dashboards and what you need to modify for a clean installation.
Why Choose the Mira L500 Dashboard?
There are a few options when it comes to Mira dashboards—L200, L200s, and L500. I chose the Mira L500 dashboard for a few important reasons:
- The L200/L200s dashboards look too similar to the stock Kancil dashboard.
- If I’m going to upgrade, I want something that actually looks upgraded.
- The L500 design is sportier, cleaner, and gives the Kancil a refreshed, more JDM-like appearance.
Simply put, I didn’t want a “same look” mod. I wanted a meaningful change—and the L500 dashboard delivers that.
Preparing for the Dashboard Installation
Swapping in the Mira L500 dashboard isn’t just a drop-in fit. Some modifications are needed to make it look seamless and function properly.
1. Replacing the Aircond Blower
The first thing to change is the aircond blower. The L500 blower only has a 3-speed fan switch, while the original Kancil has 4 speeds. You can modify the Kancil blower to fit the L500 dashboard, but I opted for the easier route—just using the L500 blower. Less work, cleaner fit.
2. Cutting the Dashboard Front
The front edge of the dashboard will need some trimming. This is to make sure the dashboard sits properly and flush with the Kancil’s cabin space. Without this, you’ll end up with gaps and alignment issues.

3. Adjusting for Steering Column Fitment
If you don’t have the L500 steering column, like me, you’ll need to do a small cutout where the column meets the dash. This gives the steering shaft enough clearance and prevents rubbing.
4. Wiring the Meter Cluster
Last, the meter wiring needs to be matched. If you’re using the L2 meter wiring diagram, things should go smoothly. The wiring isn’t too difficult if you follow a proper guide. Most of the connections are straightforward.
Final Thoughts
The Mira L500 dashboard is a worthy upgrade. It gives my Kancil a unique and premium interior feel. While it does require some effort and cutting, the end result is worth every minute.
If you’re serious about modding your Kancil, this dashboard swap is a must-do. It’s not only functional—it makes your car stand out from the rest.
