JB-JL 660 Turbo: The Ideal Swap for My Kancil Project
I finally found the perfect engine for my Kancil project—the JB-JL 660 Turbo from a Daihatsu Mira L502. After weeks of hunting for a suitable halfcut around Bukit Minyak, I stumbled upon a great deal that fit my budget. At first, I considered the L200s engine, but its price was too steep for something that old. So, I shifted focus to something newer and more reliable.
The JB-JL 660 Turbo stood out. It offers a balance of power, fuel efficiency, and long-term dependability. Most importantly, it’s still within reach price-wise. This engine doesn’t just bring performance—it also minimizes the extra care usually needed for older units.
Why I Chose the JB-JL
Let me explain my reasons. First, the JB-JL 660 Turbo is an auto transmission. Yes, I know many enthusiasts prefer manuals, but hear me out. Auto was cheaper. And since this Kancil is meant for daily use, auto fits the role better. Besides, my girlfriend can’t drive a manual car. So it made sense.
Secondly, I can always switch to a manual gearbox later if I crave the raw driving feel. But for now, the automatic setup works. It keeps the build practical, especially for city traffic.
JB-JL 660 Turbo Specifications
Here are the key specs that make this engine a gem:
- Engine Code: JB-JL
- Capacity: 660cc
- Type: 16 Valve DOHC Turbo
- Compression Ratio: 8.7:1
- Max Horsepower: 64PS at 7500RPM
- Torque: 10.2KG-M at 4000RPM

The specs clearly show that this engine packs a punch for a compact daily driver. Even better, it gives me the performance boost I wanted without sacrificing usability.

To wrap things up, the JB-JL 660 Turbo is the right choice for my Kancil project. It’s modern, powerful, and cost-effective. The automatic transmission makes it great for daily use, while the turbo adds some fun. Stay tuned for more updates and real-world results as the build progresses.
