From my last update, I mentioned getting a set of rims for my Celica. Now, it’s time to shift the spotlight back to my Project Kancil. I recently added something special—an interior upgrade that many might skip, but I couldn’t resist. Yes, I finally got myself a Mira L5 Black Dash.
Why Choose the Mira L5 Black Dash?
For most, the stock dashboard is “good enough.” But when I stumbled upon a clean Mira L5 Black Dash at a deal too good to ignore, I had to grab it. It’s rare to find one in great shape, and I’ve always loved the clean, dark aesthetic. It gives the interior a sporty and timeless look compared to the original grey trim.
DIY Installation – Weekend Project Done Right
So what better time to do it than during a long weekend? I rolled up my sleeves and spent the day swapping dashboards. The process was smoother than expected—no complicated wiring needed. I simply removed the old grey dashboard and replaced it with the Mira L5 unit.
While at it, I reused my red-lettered dash meter instead of the white one that came with the L5 dash. I prefer the sporty red look, and it blended perfectly with the black trim.

Custom Touches for Practical Use
The job took me roughly three hours. Along the way, I decided to customize the dash a bit. I cut out openings on the right side for switches—rear wiper, fog lamp, demister. I even added a hole for the power side mirror switch, preparing for a future mirror upgrade. These little touches make the dash cleaner and more future-ready.

What’s Next After the Mira L5 Black Dash Upgrade?
Now that the Mira L5 Black Dash is installed, my next mission is to find a matching dashboard tray with cup holder and a set of pillar covers. My Kancil didn’t come with those, and having them will complete the look and feel of the L5 interior setup.
Here’s a quick recap of what’s been done:
- Swapped grey dashboard with Mira L5 black dash
- Reused red meter cluster
- Custom switch holes added
- Prepped for future side mirror upgrade
Final Thoughts
This Mira L5 Black Dash upgrade may not boost performance, but it seriously transforms the driving feel. Sometimes, small interior changes bring the most satisfaction—especially when they’re budget-friendly and DIY.
