I’ve been upgrading my Satria recently, and in this guide, I’ll show you how I installed a Satria oil catch tank on it. My car runs a Mitsubishi Lancer GSR 4G93T engine, and this simple mod made a noticeable difference.
Why Install an Oil Catch Tank?
Over time, crankcase vapors can carry oil and contaminants back into the intake, affecting engine performance and efficiency. By installing an oil catch tank helps trap these unwanted elements. Besides that, keeping your intake system cleaner and your engine running smoother.
Tools & Parts You’ll Need:
- Oil catch tank kit (with hoses and brackets)
- Hose clamps
- Basic hand tools
- Optional: zip ties or mounting hardware
Step 1: Choose a Mounting Location for Oil Catch Tank
The hardest part of the installation was actually deciding where to mount the tank. In my case, I found a suitable spot just behind the headlamp near the radiator. Look for a place that:
- Is secure and free from moving parts
- Has enough clearance for hoses
- Then, need to ensure future tank drainage access.
Step 2: Identify the PCV Port which needed for Oil Catch Tank
On the Mitsubishi 4G9x engine, there are two potential outlets on the engine cover where blow-by gases return to the intake. I highlighted both in the image below (red circles). After some consideration, I chose the second one—it offered a shorter and neater route to the catch tank.

Step 3: Route Your Hoses
Pick up the PCV outlet:
- Connect a hose from the PCV outlet to the inlet of the oil catch tank
- Connected the hose from the outlet of the oil catch tank back to the air intake filter.
Use hose clamps or zip ties to secure everything in place. Ensure the hoses aren’t kinked and won’t rub against hot or moving parts.

Final Check and Notes
The whole process took me about 15 minutes, and it was quite straightforward. If you’re planning your own Satria oil catch tank installation, this is a solid DIY mod you can do at home.
My cold air intake had a visible crack and was in poor condition. So, I plan to replace it soon in the future.
