Finally, the moment has arrived. After weeks of planning, preparation, and hard work, my new Kancil engine is ready to start. I’m beyond excited to share this small but meaningful milestone with you. While this update is short, it marks a major turning point in my Kancil project.
Why I Swapped the Engine
Before diving into the startup, let me give you a quick recap. My old engine had too many issues—an unreliable electric power steering (EPS), a failing driveshaft, and leaking oil were just the start. After a long discussion with Gar from P44 Autoworks, I decided to go for a full engine swap using a Daihatsu Mira L6 half-cut. The decision wasn’t easy, but the outcome is worth it.
Installing the New Kancil Engine
Gar and the team at P44 Autoworks didn’t waste any time. Even though it was peak season with the Raya/Puasa holidays around the corner, they squeezed my car into their busy schedule. Within a few days, they removed the old engine, cleaned the entire engine bay, and gave it a fresh coat of paint. Then, they installed the new Kancil engine and all related parts.
The First Startup Test
Here comes the exciting part. After all the effort and anticipation, it was finally time to start the engine. I didn’t expect much on the first crank, but the result surprised me—in a good way. The engine turned over confidently, and the idle sounded smooth and stable. The feeling of hearing that engine come to life for the first time was just priceless.
I recorded the moment to share with all of you. Watch the video below to see the new Kancil engine start up for the very first time.
What’s Next After the New Kancil Engine Start
While this marks a huge milestone, there’s still more to do. I’ll need to:
- Fine-tune the engine timing
- Check for minor leaks or loose connections
- Reconnect all sensors and hoses properly
- Run a few more tests before hitting the road
I’m planning to document each of these steps, so stay tuned for updates as I get closer to putting the car back on the road.
Final Thoughts of the New Kancil Engine
Starting the new Kancil engine for the first time reminded me why I love working on cars. It’s the little victories that keep the passion alive. Whether you’re into DIY upgrades or full-on engine swaps, I hope this inspires you to start your own project.
