HWL ST1 Coilovers: The Perfect Upgrade for My Satria
After months of waiting in my storeroom, I finally got the chance to install the HWL ST1 Coilovers on my Proton Satria. While I couldn’t be there during the installation, I’m happy to share the results. The ride quality and handling have improved significantly, and the Satria feels much more responsive. Let’s dive into what makes the HWL ST1 Coilovers such a great choice.
HWL ST1 Coilovers: Key Features
The HWL ST1 Coilovers are an entry-level adjustable suspension kit. They are designed for street use, offering a great balance between performance and affordability. Here’s what sets them apart:
- 15-step Soft/Hard Damping Adjustment: Allows for fine-tuning based on your driving style.
- Hi/Lo Height Adjustment: Adjust ride height for that perfect stance.
- Body Shift Design: Enhances the overall handling and ride quality.
- Customizable Coil Spring Rates: Tailor the ride to your preference.
- Fully Serviceable: Easy to maintain for long-term use.
- Twin-Tube Damper Design: Though not monotube, it offers solid performance for daily and spirited driving.
While the twin-tube design may have limitations compared to monotube systems—like a lower oil capacity and smaller piston valves—it’s still a fantastic choice for street driving and occasional track use.
Setup and Ride Quality with HWL ST1 Coilovers
I set the damping to 7 out of 15 and adjusted the ride height to create a 1–1.5 inch gap between the wheel arch and the tire. The result? A noticeable improvement in handling, and the ride is still comfortable enough for daily driving. It’s the best of both worlds: sporty and practical. The car feels more agile, yet I don’t sacrifice comfort on longer drives. No regrets here!
Additional Repairs and Cosmetic Upgrades
Along with installing the HWL ST1 Coilovers, I took care of a few other maintenance tasks and cosmetic upgrades. Here’s what I worked on:
- Burnt Wires for the Fan Relay: Repaired to prevent further electrical issues.
- Check Engine Light: Likely caused by the O2 sensor, but I’ve resolved it.
- Transparent Timing Belt Cover: Replaced the old one for a cleaner look, though the OEM cam pulley doesn’t show it off as much as I’d like.
These may be small fixes, but each one brings me closer to making my 4G93T-powered Satria feel fresh again.0
Final Thoughts on the HWL ST1 Coilovers
The HWL ST1 Coilovers have made a noticeable difference in how my Satria handles the road. The combination of adjustable damping, height, and customization options makes it a solid choice for anyone looking to upgrade their suspension. Plus, with the minor repairs and cosmetic upgrades, my Satria feels revitalized. It’s a small investment that makes a big impact on both performance and aesthetics.
