So… what have I got for my Celica recently? Two rare and exciting additions that I couldn’t resist!
TRD Sport M Meter Cluster
This one was a must-grab when it popped up on the market. The most appealing detail? The rev counter (RPM meter) is placed in the center, unlike the standard cluster where it’s pushed to the left. It gives off a much sportier vibe, instantly reminding you you’re driving something special.
Installation was straightforward — it’s plug-and-play with the standard SS2 harness, requiring just a few bolts to swap it in. A small change, but it dramatically transforms the cockpit feel.
Chrome Celica Door Steps
Next up: a pair of chrome “Celica” worded door sills. Oddly, my SS2 Super Strut spec Celica didn’t come with them, despite most of my friends with the same spec having them installed. Possibly a factory option in Japan?
Anyway, glad to have secured a set. Installation was as easy as:
- Removing the original steps,
- Swapping over the clips to the new set,
- Snapping them back in place.
Small detail, big difference in presentation when stepping into the car.
What is the TRD Sport M Celica?
For those unfamiliar, the TRD Sport M is the holy grail of Toyota Celicas — a Japan-only special tuned by TRD (Toyota Racing Development) and produced in extremely limited numbers.
Highlights of the TRD Sport M:
- Limited to just 1,200 units
- Only 4 known in Malaysia; 2 written off, 1 remains in stock condition
- Powered by a 200bhp 2ZZ-GE engine (same base as Lotus Elise)
- TRD suspension, limited-slip differential, and chassis reinforcement
- Unique TRD aero kit
- 6-speed close-ratio manual with 8,400rpm redline
- Features VVTL-i (Variable Valve Timing & Lift with intelligence)
Built on the already capable SS-II Super Strut Package, the Sport M took it up a notch with serious track-ready performance, but kept the daily usability intact.
These upgrades are just a small step closer to that legendary TRD spec. Stay tuned — more mods coming soon!
