When I visited P44 Autoworks with my Kancil, I didn’t expect things to move so fast. My main goal was to resolve several persistent issues—mainly a faulty electric power steering (EPS), a worn-out drive shaft, and of course, the old and tired Kancil engine. Gar, the mechanic, suggested going for a half-cut L6 engine. That option came with benefits: a working EPS, better reliability, and even a chance to sell off unused parts to recoup some of the cost.
Although the workshop was packed due to the upcoming Raya festival, I wasn’t in a rush. I knew they were swamped, so I gave Gar and his team the time and space they needed. Still, I kept an eye on the progress through their Facebook and Instagram updates.
Kancil Engine Removal and Preparation
Surprisingly, just a few days later, Gar posted an update. The problematic Kancil engine had already been removed from the bay. That alone was a great relief. But what came next was even more impressive.
In the middle of their packed schedule, the team stripped everything necessary from the engine bay. They didn’t just do a swap—they took things further. Before installing the new engine, they gave the entire bay a fresh coat of paint. That extra step showed their dedication to quality work.
Painting the Engine Bay
After removing all components, the P44 team got straight to work. They prepped the bay carefully and sprayed a clean, even coat of paint. The result? A much cleaner and more vibrant look that brought new life to my old Kancil.
Transitioning from a grimy, cluttered bay to a freshly painted and organized setup took real craftsmanship. I could clearly see the attention to detail. Even though I wasn’t physically there, the photos on social media told the full story.

Installing the New Kancil Engine
With the bay freshly painted, the team started reinstalling the new Kancil engine. Piece by piece, the half-cut L6 and other components made their way back into the car. Despite their tight schedule and multiple ongoing jobs, they kept things moving at an impressive pace.
I never expected the engine swap to reach this stage so quickly. The entire process—from engine removal to a full bay repaint and reassembly—happened in less than a week. That’s a rare sight, especially during such a busy season.

Final Thoughts
The transformation of my Kancil engine bay amazed me. Gar and the crew at P44 Autoworks delivered not just mechanical repairs, but a complete refresh. Their dedication, transparency through updates, and fast turnaround made the experience feel more personal.
If you’re thinking about a Kancil engine swap or looking for detailed, professional work, I highly recommend giving Gar a call.
