57mm Throttle Body: The Simple Power Boost You Need
The 57mm throttle body is undoubtedly one of the easiest and most cost-effective upgrades you can make for your Proton Persona. First of all, it’s all about improving airflow—because more air naturally means more power. After installing a high-flow air filter, the logical next step is to increase the intake diameter. That’s where this throttle body upgrade comes in. In fact, it allows the engine to breathe more freely, especially at higher RPMs. Therefore, KC—the proud owner of the Persona—decided to install it. As a result, he aimed to achieve better throttle response and unlock more top-end performance.
Why Choose a 57mm Throttle Body?
The stock throttle body on most Proton Campro engines measures 52mm. Upgrading to a 57mm throttle body adds 5mm of intake diameter, which helps your engine breathe easier. Based on product specs, you can expect gains of about 2 horsepower and 2 Nm of torque, particularly at higher RPMs like 7500. For under RM600, it’s a solid deal for noticeable improvements.

Installation Process: Quick and Plug-and-Play
One major advantage of this upgrade is its simplicity and ease of installation. In fact, the 57mm throttle body that KC chose is fully plug-and-play, making the process incredibly straightforward. There’s no need for drilling, extra wiring, or any major modifications. Instead, it’s a quick swap. Here’s exactly how the installation was done:
- First, disconnect the sensor sockets attached to the original throttle body.
- Next, carefully unscrew the bolts securing the OEM part in place.
- Then, remove the original 52mm throttle body.
- After that, install the new 57mm throttle body by simply reversing the removal steps.
- Finally, double-check all connections and torque settings to ensure everything is secure and properly aligned.

ECU Reset: A Smart Step After Installation
Although many aftermarket throttle bodies are designed to work with stock ECUs, it’s always a good idea to reset your ECU. In KC’s case, the mechanic performed a reset to help the system learn the new airflow characteristics. This ensures smoother idle, better throttle calibration, and optimized fuel-air mixture.
First Impressions and What’s Next
Immediately after installation, KC noticed improved throttle response. Acceleration felt sharper, especially when pushing through the mid-to-high RPM range. While the performance gains may seem small on paper, the driving experience speaks louder.
KC’s Proton Persona isn’t done yet—more upgrades are in the pipeline, including exhaust tuning and engine calibration. But for now, the 57mm throttle body has delivered an easy and effective performance bump.
